Billy Mitchell, an American military general, is considered the "father" of the United States Air Force. He is one of the most well-known and controversial figures in the history of the American air fleet.
Early Life
William Mitchell was born in Nice, France, into a wealthy family. His father, John L. Mitchell, was a senator from Wisconsin. Mitchell grew up in the suburbs of Milwaukee. His grandfather, Alexander Mitchell, was a Scottish immigrant who became the wealthiest man in Wisconsin, founding the Marine Bank of Wisconsin and having streets and parks named after him.
He received his higher education at the Columbian College of George Washington University. At the age of 18, Mitchell joined the army
